i work in a children's museum and have always used the nursing room in the babies/toddler area of the museum to pump. it wasn't ideal because i often felt like i was displacing moms who wanted to nurse and because there were often toddlers running around as their moms nursed in the other chair. because it was open to the public, it did not technically meet the criteria of the new healthcare legislation. so i shared the fact sheet with my hr person and she said she would see what she could do. i didn't have high hopes because free space is seriously limited. she was able to have a family restroom converted into a lactation space. they took out the toilet but left the long countertop with a sink. it's been pained a nice lavender color, added a rug, glider with ottoman, storage bins for moms, and nice touches like a clock, microwave (so i can use my micro-steam bags), tissues, paper towel dispenser and dish soap. i'm so happy!
