Is it a bad idea to do any kind of cleanse/detox while bfing a toddler? Even something milder like lemonade cleanse? What about kombucha?

I want to prepare my body for conception, but wouldn't wean my toddler for that reason.

I appreciate any advice!

ummm, i drink kombucha tea anyway. except when my kids steal it from me. i hadnt read anywhere that you couldnt drink kombucha tea while bfing. cleansing though..... hmmm. i guess i would be worried about toxins coming out in the milk. not sure about that. would like to see what everyone else says.

What about the Alpha Omega cleanses?
They seem pretty benign, and a bottle is usually 30days start to finish, so they are more of a slow gentle process rather than instant detox.

I would just focus on a clean diet. Not a big fan of cleanses over here.

I would love to know more. My diet's pretty clean already. We are dairy free (ds is allergic), we rarely eat meat and when we do it's organic, only organic produce. We filter our water, eat only wild-caught fish in moderation, take probiotics and eat mostly sprouted grain bread products. Oh, and DH makes mean stews, so we get lots of bean fiber. Should I just stay the course and not worry about purifying at this point?

if you're asking my opinion the answer is yes. why do you think you want to do a cleanse?

Well, while researching vaccines I came across an article that pointed out that a cleanse/detox before conception can reduce toxins in the child thereby making exposure later in life safer. And I guess I thought it would help my body function at it's highest during and post pregnancy.

gotcha. I think (again, just my opinion) that you can do the same thing with good nutrition (bolstering your stores, and therefore the baby's stores) along with gentle support for detox pathways. I use homeopathy along with nutrition. Some just use nutrition. The bottom line is a healthy, well nourished body will always look to self right.

WE tend to hold on to toxins only when we're incapable of dealing with them. That can be because the exposure is too high, or it can be because we're unable to excrete. Generally it's a combination of the two. If you reduce your exposure where possible and support your body in it's ability to manage what you can't control you'll be in good shape.

The way cleanses work (many of them) is to force your body to mobilize and dump a bunch of junk at once. This is not a healthy approach in my opinion. I prefer gentle and slow. However mine is not the only one to be sure.

I am not a vaccine advocate, but I will tell you that I believe susceptibility to adverse reactions would be lower if the child had good nutrient stores to draw from (which allows them to clear toxins faster.) My two cents.
