how to deal with a picky eater?

My 17 month old DS is becoming somewhat of a picky eater....I am trying to give him what we eat, but most of it ends up thrown off of the high chair or fed to the dog. He'll eat some fruit, loves graham crackers and other snacky-type stuff, but wont eat veggies or meat (ie what we eat) My husband keeps saying fine, let him go - when he's hungry he'll eat...but the problem with that is that if he doesn't eat then he'll want to nurse ALL NIGHT LONG.

So I guess I feel like I'm torn between filling him up with not-so-healthy stuff or losing my sleep while he drinks liquid gold all night long....

Has anyone been through this? What did you do?

We're going through this right now. LOTS of "Trader Joe's O's" (like Cheerios) being eaten over here!!! She will eat bacon, black beans, and occasionally oatmeal. A bite of bread or banana here and there. She loves to "eat" crushed ice. (Sigh.) Everything else is pretty much thrown on the floor.

So, no advice, just commiseration.

I've got a super picky eater too! She'll eat fruit and bread all day long, but meat and veggies end up on the floor. Though I've discovered two tactics that somewhat work. Sometimes if she sits in my lap, she'll eat a few bites of what I'm eating. I've also found that if I let her feed me a bite or two, then she'll eat some. Granted, it's only a few bites, but it's a step in the right direction.
