need allergen free shampoo that will "nourish" 2 1/2 yo DD's HAIR!

this may be posted in the wrong area but I need the wash/shampoo and conditioner to be gluten, dairy, egg, soy free! (soy especially and I can't find anything soy free!)

My DD's hair is broken and in BAD shape--I know it may have to do with nutritional deficiencies because of her allergies and we are doing what we can--up until now we have been using California baby on she and my 4 1/2 year old son as well.

I need to find something safe, and that will nourish and help her hair flourish because I want her to have beautiful hair. I finally stopped putting it up in elastics and am letting her look like an orphan with it all stragly to try and let it grow better without any breakage...poor girl. let me know your favorites.

p.s. I know that a lot use VERY safe products and it seems like those are the type that don't nourish as MUCH--just get you through and clean. I am willing to get a little less natural product that will help her hair (but still safe)--let me know--thanks!!!

Hair is already dead, so it might be better to trim away the damaged hair and then start with a mostly water only program. Be sure to brush her hair often with a soft natural bristle brush. As a toddler she shouldn't need too frequent of shampoos anyway. Rinse off the baby sweat and then under running water comb it out and let it air dry.

When you do shampoo - you will probably need a full synthetic product like:

We only wash DD's hair about once a week (unless she gets something gross in it), and we use the Kiss My Face pure olive oil bar soap.

Yup, washing less often lets the natural oils permeate the hair. I don't know if we even get to DS' once a week - maybe 2x a month?.

just wanted to add that we already only wash DD's hair about once a week or even less since I heard that was better for everything.

Jason makes a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner. I don't see soy listed on the bottles, but I do not know all the various names for hidden soy ingredients. I got it through Vitacost. It works fine on my straight hair but I have not used with DD yet (she has curly hair). For her, I use either California baby or Free and Clear shampoo by Vanicream.

Vitamin E is usually soy.

I sure hope we never add soy to our list of IgE allergies...so much info to keep straight!

We just use the fragrance free glycerin soap from Whole Foods for everything but rarely wash DS's hair. He's usually dunking it in his epsom salts baths anyways!

As far as nourishing goes, what about working through a dab of safe oil like palm or coconut?

dd is 3 and I only wash her hair every 1-2 months. She has thick blond curls, and hates hair washes.
I just run conditioner through her hair as her scalp oils are down from no washing. We have been using Tates, but it never touches her scap much. Just checking and it is dairy, soy, and gluten free, and natural. I use it in my hair too. When she does get her hair washed I use aubreys which has soy. But since it isn't that often, and we dont see reactions , I am ok with it. Now if she washed her hair everyday, I would switch shampoos.

I second the "hair is already dead" comment - you can't repair it much once it's broken. My suggestion, though it's not exactly nourishing, is plain old baking soda for 'shampoo' and apple cider vinegar for conditioner. They work pretty well, they're cheap, and they aren't synthetic. I'd say to try and nourish the body, not the hair - get good quality proteins and oils into her so her body can grow nicer hair. Can she eat salmon, flax, avocado, tree nuts, sunflower seeds? I'd go that route. Plus, some little kids just have baby-fine hair. DS1's hair didn't really come in like thick, regular hair instead of cornsilk fine stuff until he was going on 3 years old. For now, what about a super-cute pixie cut like this?
