We have two sweet indoor cats (spayed sisters) that are middle aged, probably 8 years old (rescued as adults from a shelter 5 years ago so it is hard to be sure). For the most part they are pretty easy. One of them tends to be more high strung at times but is mostly laid back.
Except not recently! About a week ago I left the window opened slightly by my bed and the high-strung cat managed to wriggle out. I immediately went outside and brought her back in but that seems to have triggered a major psychology issue with the cat. She yowls like a cat in heat ALL. DAY. LONG. She runs from window to window howling and yowling. If she is not howling at a window she is wailing at us, like blaring in my face. I have tried taking her outside for short walks but it does nothing to abate her yowling. We have resorted to locking her in a bedroom for a few hours each day just to get a break.
What is this??? She is spayed but acting like she is not??? Is that possible? Literally as I type this she is in the next room yowling in a weird throaty moan out the window!!
