Do you put vaseline on between changes?

My Mom says to put vaseline on my twin baby's bottom when I change their diapers so that it gives them protection against the wet diaper. She gets mad at me when I don't do it, but I don't think it's really necessary.

Do you put anything on your babies, or do you just leave them dry and change often?

I would never use vaseline. It's a petroleum product and really yucky for little ones. I don't use anything unless I see a little redness and then I use something natural. Besides, must feel a little slimy to have wettish stuff on your bottom all the time. LOL

Absolutely not.

I don't use anything unless they have a rash. I change them pretty often and we use cloth diapers. If they are getting rashy often I would suspect an allergy to something in their diet or the diaper material itself, in which case Vaseline isn't going to fix the issue.

Bordeaux's Butt-Paste has a natural formula that I like to use sparingly as needed.

ETA: If you are using cloth, something like Vaseline can leave a coating on them that will cause them to repel and not work properly.

I definitely wouldn't use vaseline! I don't put cream on with every nappy change but I do sometimes use Paw Paw ointment.

Definitely never vaseline. I'm normally in the 'don't use anything unless I need it' camp but my daughter has a still unknown rash that looks better when I moisturize it. I use CJ's BUTTer now at every diaper change just to keep the flares minimal until and if we can get a diagnosis and cause for her rash otherwise.

but I'd never use vaseline. I won't even BUY vaseline.

I wouldn't use Vaseline. I'd see how baby does with NOTHING... and if there IS some irritation/redness, try Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It worked REALLY well (and REALLY quickly) for my kids the few times I needed it.

I used Vaseline when he was a newborn because that's what we were given at the hospital and it helped prevent the meconium poop from sticking too badly, but after a few weeks it seemed unnecessary and since we have switched to cloth diapers, I don't use anything except cloth diaper-friendly stuff (i.e., CJ's BUTTer) when it is needed. I try to avoid zinc-based creams unless he has a bad rash that won't go away. I have to use fleece liners with the creams.

I never used vaseline. I found rinsing their bum with water worked nicely.

We used nothing. Wipe with a wet (soap free) cloth and you're good to go.
