Tax troubles anyone?

Wondering if I am the only one whose debt includes tax issues.

My sister does, in Canada. The interest rate is horrible - its doubled the debt. After 6 years or so, the gov has put a lien on her house. So her house is now up for sale and she hopes she gets enough to pay off the outstanding debt.

I hope you resolve it soon, or at least speak with them to make a satisfactory payment arrangement. I believe that if you keep open communication with them they are more willing to work with you. Good luck.

I don't have any debt now, but a few years ago I did owe the IRS. I got on a pyament plan, and then they took my tax return one year and now the debt is gone.

best thing to do is to work with them and not ignore them. get on a payment plan would be my recommendation

Yes, I discovered the hard way that ignoring/putting off the IRS is... NOT a good idea!! That old saying about death and taxes really is true. The longer it is the worse it gets. The tax agency really will work with you, as long as you pay something, even a little, regularly they are okay with it. At least that was my experience.

You are not alone. We were audited this year, so, it looks like I have some found debt in the way of taxes.

We did. It was bad and we finally got our state's taxpayer advocate involved (it is a free service) and she was able to resolve the issue for us completely. I would recommend looking into that.

We were audited last year for 2006 and 2007 and because of a few issues, we were not able to pay the additional amount we owe. I am trying to get it worked out but it is tangled mess and it causing us so much stress. No car payments, little CC debt but this. Ugh!
