How do we get the mucus out!

Mucus is making breathing-and-eating a slight challenge. What shall we do about this... are there non-medicated ways to solve this for a 4 month old?

I did buy a saline mist (pharmacist "okayed") and put a drop or two into DD's nostril, but I'm not sure it works too well... or maybe I am doing something wrong. I put a drop in while head is tilted back... but then I turn her over, head down.

Do we just wait this out...

Will a humidifier work...

Shall we turn down the heater... b/c it's too dry...

Other ideas...

Fortunately, she's only at her worst for 2 meals a day... usually late at night, early morning.

You can use a dropper for saline and then we use the sucton bulb thing afterwards.

Babies HHHAAATTEEE it but it does help.

Nosefrida!

The Nosefreida is amazing. You'll never use that stupid blue bulb again. I ordered ours from amazon.com.

I like the saline that sprays up their nose, rather than the drops. It's a bit shocking at first maybe, but I never felt like I could get the drops where they needed to go.

We use a humidifier at night when DS is snotty. It helps keep the mucus from getting all thick overnight.

Nosefrida for sure. Wish I had one with my first. I bought mine at diapers.com. Make sure you get extra filters bc it only comes with a few.
I also use humidifier at night and put a drop of eucalyptus in there.

Thanks for all the tips!

Nosefrida is awesome. Pay for expedited shipping. A million times better than all those lousy nasal aspirators. Wish I had it with my first and get the extra filters too.

well we use saline and squirt a ton up there (its salt and water so the amount doesn't matter) they hate it and act like they are drowning but after you do this you can really suck all of it out alot easier....

I have a hard time getting much mucus out with any aspirator, but the nosefrida is by far the best! What's worked pretty well for us when DD is particularly congested is to use this saline spray (she absolutely HATES it), keep her lying down for a few minutes for it to get into her sinuses, and then breastfeed. It doesn't last forever, but will temporarily clear her out enough so she can breathe to nurse.

Good luck!

I love the idea of putting eucalyptus in the humidifier! Where exactly do you add it - right to the water??

Wait, you have to inhale at the end of the tube to get the snot out? I was ready to order it until I saw that picture! Can someone explain how it works?
Thanks!

Nose Frida looks effective and I guess you're not actually breathing in the snot, but I just watched a video showing how to use it and it made me want to puke!

I just use the blue bulb syringe and I have never had any problems with it!
