How much is your 8mo 'talking'?

DS2 is 8 months today and still growls/groans, screetches/squeals, or a sound that sounds like 'ha, ha' when he's laughing but doesn't really make many other sounds. He's much more of an observer of what I'm saying or others are saying or teaching him to say. Even when it comes to signing, he's not showing much interest. Normal? I can't remember with my 1st - feels like ages ago.

My just about 8 month old says Mama and Dada. Seemingly on purpose, like to get my attention. I don't remember DS doing it this young though.

My dd (almost 10 months) has been way more verbal than her brother was at this age. DS didn't start real discernable words (apart from mama dada and no!) until he was almost 18 mos.

DD started with a discernable, appropriate and consistent "Hiya" at about 3 mos. I swear the first time she said it was at 4 weeks, but that's just crazy talk, isn't it? Then she started with mama, and dada at about 6 mos, and has been adding words and signs on a weekly basis. Now she has Hola as well, since our babysitter and her daughter are spanish speakers.

I am constantly shocked by her noises and how word like they sound. Tonight at dinner DS was naming G words he learned in school and DH asked him " What's the opposite of bad?" and he couldn't think of it, and dd babbled what sounded very much like Good, and then threw her hands on her head, smiled hugely and clapped and said "good" again. We all three were like

Probably over active imaginations, but she is hugely more verbal than DS ever was.

My just 8 month old started saying babababababa, just the other day. Other than that its screeching and squealing. It was funny too, bc right when she woke up at 7am she did it and I almost jumped out of bed.
I do wish she was saying more though...at least mama

My 8 mo DD mostly babbles vowels, and goes through phases where she throws in some consonants. The one she says most frequently is "mamamamama," when she is upset (which is often as she is teething!). Some days, she'll use the same sound all day, and we think she's working up to a word (like d-d-d to dada), but so far, no discernible words.

9m old here. mostly growls. can babble dada, but nothing real yet.

No real words here. His new favorite sound is wawawawawa... He seems to like the "w" sound. I almost thought he did a baby sign for me today but then he started rubbing his eye.

DH sings a song to him about what sound each of the letters make (he works in pre-K) and DS has started babbling a few more sounds since then.

ETA: DS thinks he is telling us things we can understand. He will have long conversations with us where his tone/inflection change so it sounds like words but they are really just a bunch of sounds.

I posted about my then 9 mo not babbling anything intelligible recently. He's 12 mo now and talking up a storm (mostly gibberish, with about 5 ''real'' words). He only started babbling at 10 months. His doc said it was totally fine.

Mine babbles pretty much all the time. Mamama, dadada, bababa, yayaya, wawawa, nynyny, etc. With a lot of raspberries thrown in.

YES! Raspberries. DS2 has been doing that a TON lately. Cracks me up!

DS is a huge babbler. Mamama, Dadadada, gaggag, lalal, madabagala, you get the picture. He is beginning to use different sounds for different things - particularly when he's angry/upset he says "dudududud". But no actual words yet.

DD didn't babble nearly as much, but she was using "real words" by 10 months (mama, dada, puppy, ball...) - there's such a huge range of normal.

My daughter waves and says hi. She also says mama and dada.

not much over here. a few consonant babbles (B and W and maybe D), LOTS of vowel babbles, and a weird little whistling sound. that's about it.

We have a lot of bababababa, dadadada, yeah, yeah, yeah and some single syllable sounds. Some high pitched ah ah.

And recently, after I said UP, I got her version of UP.

She also imitates moving her lips as if she is talking.

And she was whispering something in my ear yesterday after she heard me say cat, something like ca. ca.

She just turned 8 months and she will definitely be the talker in our family.

My ds is just about 11 months now. He wasn't doing much babbling at all at 8 months. For a bit I was a little worried, because I remember his brother being much more vocal. But then ds 2 has been a very mellow baby (much more than his brother) and was often content to just chill and watch people.

At around 10 months he started babbling more, but he even now has his times of the day where he's pretty quiet and tends to be much more vocal in the afternoons and evenings.

That's what I think is gonna happen here, too. He was a bit more high maintenance this his big bro was when he was a NB, but he's so chill now, it's crazy. It'll be interesting to see....

yup, this - our LO doesn't stop babbling. if he's awake, he's making noises or blowing raspberries.

he has seemed to use "mom mom" on purpose, but not consistently. he has also used "da da da da da" but we're not sure he's associating it with DH.

however, last weekend, i swear he said "yeah" and used it appropriately. my mom was holding him and he was a bit whiny and i asked him "are you hungry?" and made the baby sign for food, and he looked at me and said "yeah"

now, my mom and i were both surprised and we talked about whether it was just a funny coincidence or him really saying it. i'm still not sure.

one thing i will admit to - when i hear anything the remotely sounds like "mom" i purposely over react to it. i smile and say "i'm mom mom!" really excitedly.

DD says dada, mama, baba, dindin, yayaya, buhbuhbuh, and our personal favorite ada ada ada. We think she knows I am mama, but other than that I think its all just babbling. The dindin noise she makes is super cool, because it had some kind of rolling of the tounge sound.
