What are the best board games for a new 3 yr old?
My DS loves "My First Orchard" from Haba. He'll play that for about 45 minutes, if he's really into it. He also likes a memory game based on the Eric Carle book "Panda Bear, Panda Bear what do you see?"

We've tried Chutes and Ladders, but he just doesn't get it yet.

not quite a board game, but memory games keep my dd entertained for a long time.

What about shoots & ladders, candyland, etc. Are these too much to ask a 3 yr old to do?

for my three year old, these would be over her head. but that could just be my kid; she doesn't really get the concept of board games yet. however, she is madly in love with hungry, hungry hippos!

When my son was 3 he had a hard time with board games. He did well with card games such as go fish and old maid. There was only one board game he seemed to understand and that was animal lotto. We don't have this one, but it's very similar. I've even thought about making one myself, it would be pretty easy.

We have the amazing labyrinth game and play a game of setting up the board with all the tiles and then taking turns putting the cards onto their matching picture. Er, well, by 3 it'd be a game, right now it's mostly dd just handing me a card and us playing "look for the match"

I second "My First Orchard" from Haba. DS (2y old) loves playing it. The rules are simple, it is about winning/losing together (the idea is to beat the raven with picking fruit). Counting one or two pieces, taking turns. Great game.
