how to get office cleaning job?

I'm a single mom, sole support of our family. I have a FT job, but we're currently furloughed a day a month and the odds are that will increase in 2011.

So, I need to generate some more income. The challenge is that I don't have evening or weekend childcare unless I pay for it (which kinda defeats the purpose of an extra PT job!).

I saw a Craigslist ad for after-hours/weekend office cleaning which I thought would be perfect in that I could take DD with me. The guy never got back to me, but it got me thinking.

How would I go about getting a job like this? Contacting offices myself? I've never done this kind of work and so have no idea what it pays, whether I provide equipment and supplies, etc. Do I need some kind of fancy business set-up? Be bonded? Or can it just be a person-to-person deal?

Thoughts? Ideas? Pointers? Thanks!

in my experience, it has been person-to-person. my sil does this, as did her sil before her, but her dad owned the company before he retired. i would start with personal contacts, and work out from there. i had a similar gig in high school. the companies had their own cleaning supplies, and bonding wasn't an issue since we knew the owner.

I'd call some local cleaners, both individual and company, and ask them about their office rates, and if they provide supplies/equipment. Companies are probably bonded and insured, but they are also far more expensive. Lots of businesses are cutting costs these days, so it seems like a good time to do something like this. I've been thinking about it myself.
