Is this UC?

I really want a hb but the only hb midwife in the area is suspended right now so I have been seeing my family doctor for my care. I really don't want to deliver in the hospital! My doula is a mw in training and an assistant mw to the mw in the area. I talked to her tonight and she would be willing to be a "doula plus" as she called it. She would charge more than her doula fee but not really be a mw either. This would make Big Daddy more comfortable having her here. and me WAY more comfortable because I am home birthing my way. so is this UC? is it HB with a lay midwife? what do you all think of it? Thanks!

Well, it doesn't matter much what we think if you are happy with it! Would you have a homebirth even without her? What about if she was just a doula? What are your expectations of her?

Big Daddy and I were thinking about uc either way but we haven't decided on that yet. He is a little uncomfortable with uc just incase something goes wrong. This is my 2nd baby and his 4th our first together. All of his were hospital epi. births or c secs so he has never experianced a natural child birth. I had DD with a MW in a hospital and I hated that I had to babysit the hospital the whole time! My expectations of her are just be around "in case". She made it very clear that she if need be keep the baby breathing until an ambulace gets here but basically she is NOT a medical professional. If she is my doula in a hospital then she will be there mostly to babysit the hospital so I don't have to. That is what I hated most about the hospital but that is NOT the only thing I didn't like about the hospital. I think it is totally not needed in most cases. I was thinking about UC even when a MW was in the mix but Big Daddy is a bit uncomfortable with it! This is a bit of a ramble now so... anyways

If she doesn't really interfere with you during the birthing and pushing process and your just sitting there doing what you feel is best then it's a UC. I think that sounds like a wonderful birth plan personally. I would do that too if I could find someone like that and I could afford it. Even if she does help out a bit it's probably somewhere in between attended and UC. I don't know if it really fits in anywhere specifically. But, I don't think it really matters. Good for you.
