The thread about what to say when people ask about your birthplans had some fun stories in it about conversations people have had about HB, and I thought it would be fun to read and share more.
When I was pregnant with DS, I was in nursing school, and our clinical instructor, who loved to give his students a hard time, was always directing comments to me about how pregnancy is "pathological," and childbirth is a "medical procedure." I would usually debate with him about how pregnancy is a normal condition of the human body, and how childbirth is meant to be a normal and natural procedure of the human body. He threw this one at me "If childbirth is not a medical procedure, then why do women give birth in hospitals?" My classmates, who knew of my plans, started laughing, as I responded, "I don't know! Why do they? I'm certainly not going to take the risks associated with manageing the birth of my child as if it were medical procedure."
