Rash on leg, sick too

Someone gave us some hand-me down pants that I put on DS, 17mo, last night, he has a rash this morning I suspect these might somehow be the cause. On the side of his calf this morning there's a 1x1.5" oval shaped rash, mostly lots of dark red distinct little spots, The area is slightly raised from inflammation. He also is fighting an illness of some sort, I've had a sore throat a few days I think he might too, he's been fussy. Anybody have a clue what it might be? Could the two be related, might it be something serious? How would you treat this? DH said it seemed like an allergy so I put cortisone cream on it, no change yet.

Possibly Scarlet Fever. It's basically a strep-strain. My daughter had it very mildly when it was going around at her school. Do some research and see if the symptoms add up.

Looks like a small localized rash on the leg doesn't fit for that. Usually on the chest, armpits, behind ears, in skin folds. He was a little warm yesterday but not hot.

Aha! I just figured out what it looks like: a hickie!! His brother swears he didn't pretend to eat his leg but he might have forgot something like that, or it could be a bruise from something else. Whew, that's a relief I was so worried about infections.

Are you in an area with lyme disease or other tick borne illnesses?

A rash that looks like a hickey can be a herpes rash, which is viral and can be' associated with mild illnesss.

We're in the city, haven't visited the woods. Isn't herpes more often found on the mouth or genitals? It'd be very rare to find on the leg like that wouldn't it?

I think the herpes rash can be anywhere. My mom, for instance, was diagnosed with it on the back of her neck and dies not remember having another outbreak- even a cold sore- ever before.
