I suppose dairy is the first thing most people ditch when they have a miserable nursling. But for me, when dd started screaming in pain back in Aug. at 7 wks, gluten & corn were the first to go. I LOVE my raw cheese and milk!! I have a gluten intolerant ds 14 and 2 corn sensitive ds age 5 & 8. (though none of them were colicy or spit up- gluten kid got bad after weaning, corn kids would get sceriosis if I ate it nursing) It helped alot, but she was still getting pretty cranky. Inspired by another thread, I tried a TED for 3 weeks - and had a DREAM baby! Yay!! (my safe diet is rabbit (we raise NZ's colony stlye), brown rice, okra, squash, steel cut oats, almonds/alm butter/alm milk, bannana, pineapple)
My DD is 4 months old now. I know she can have more than that, but it seemed every time I try something new, if I eat more than a bite she ends up writhing around while nursing & spitting up like crazy. We eat pretty natural - so I'm trying fruits & veggies, chicken & beef we raise, home made sauces & granola, spelt pan cakes, ect. Ended up at a dr that does muscle testing & allergy ellim. Definately artificial anything really bothers her & sodium nitrates, corn & gluten. He thought dairy from our own cow would be ok. My cow is not milking - waiting for her to calve. My son has nubian goats - waiting for 2 to kid.
What did I do? First weekend of Oct., I spent $$$$ I didn't really have to buy a cow in milk...and have her delivered from 4 hours away!!! So hard to find a family milk cow when you need one! At the same time we had Benji our long horn bull put in the freezer for pure grass fed beef. The first 3 days I drank her milk, it made me queezy : ( I figured my tummy had changed after 3 wks on safe diet. I kept trying to convince myself we were doing ok on the yogurt I was making & cheese (oh how I love cheese & sauce!) But was spitting up alot, slowly getting worse and was in pain last weekend : (
I stink at trailing things - I can strictly stay on my safe diet, but as soon as I let myself try something new, I don't have the restraint & eat other things too. A few weeks ago, I was going to try Benji's meat. Hubby made the roast plain for me...but he also cooked carrots in molassas, & mashed potatoes with milk & godess dressing. I couldn't help it - I ate it all! And dd was pitiful for 2 days. Fat lot of good it did me! Can't tell what bothered her. Same with the next weekend - I made the most delisious meat loaf. With ezekiel bread, egg replacer, stewed tomatoes, water & mashed brocolli (it was just sitting there, leftover - way too many things in there). I LOVED eating something yummy! I'm so bad! It seemed ok that night & the next morning...so I ate more....then I ate a chocolate bar! Can you believe me ugg! Of course she was miserable Mon. & couldn't even sleep that night. And I now don't know if the meat loaf was ok!! (see, I was in tractor supply - starving - I wanted choc so bad & when I read the ing. & saw no corn syrup - convinced myself it wasn't so bad)
Went back to that Dr. - armed with samples of our milks & meat (and a huge list of stuff I want to try) The Benji burger was perfectly fine yay! The new cow's milk tested bad for both of us : ( The cow I'm waiting on is fine for me, but not for dd. Goat milk bothers her now, but he can clear that. He said cow milk needs to permanently be removed from her diet. Waaah! I love cow milk, I milk the dang cow & I can't drink it while I nurse for the next 2-5 years!!! (the new cow's milk is different than our Bessie's -and I love Bessie's so much better. It might be the A1/A2 issue I've been reading about...so I'm selling the new cow)
It seems the 3 weeks of trailing milk had tore up her gut & is making her react to just about everything - if I eat more than just a little bit of something - but yes she's better. I go back to the Dr. on Tues - he is doing NAET and said last week it 'took' good...? I'm going to have him test the 2 kinds of probiotics I have, the oils I have sunflower/safflower/olive/flax/fish,
and cane sugar/stevia/honey (I just bought alot & I think it bothers her) For the harvest party on the farm ds1 made marshmallows with honey/sugar...I had to taste them. She was uncomfortable nursing the next morn - but not too bad...I also had a little apple cider when cleaning up - bad me.
So now, any gems of wisdom you can offer me?? On what else to ask the allergy ellim Dr. about. Other supliments to muscle test? When preg the lady at the hfs muscle tested every multi-vit they had on me. The only one good for me was a children's complete liquid - its orange. Not even other kids ones were ok. I'm going to test it on us Tues, too. When preg I had no appitite the whole time (was hungry but repulsed) And couldn't stand the thought of milk or pasta/bready stuff - avoided corn cause of my little boys. Water nauseated me -wierd! I lived off of protien shakes made with frozen bannanas & pineapple juice. I emptied capsules of vit c & cal/mag/zinc/D in my shakes. I still do shakes, but the pills muscle tested bad for her??
Sooo...I guess I wrote a book
I've been reading here soo much these past 2 mths, and have gotten alot from reading other's stories of figuring it all out. Now that I'm past the initial 'help! my baby is reacting to my bm!' stage LOL! I'm sure I'll be asking for advise on fine tuning this as I go & how to figure out which suppliments/where to get them allergy free. So I guess this is more of a
