causes of blisters on buttocks and penis?

My 21 mo ds has tended to get blisters under his diaper. I thought they were coinciding with teething, but it no longer appears that way. Most recently he has been getting these blisters on the tip of his penis. 2 weeks ago he was diagnosed with serious cellulitits. The doctor prescribed oral and topical antibiotics due to severity. It healed up and is back again, as he got the blisters yesterday. So, the blisters are opening up and getting infected. I have been a childcare provider and have an older daughter and have never seen such blisters before. I think that if I can figure out how to prevent the blisters I can prevent the infection. COuld the blisters be from an allergy?

Does he wear cloth diapers? Sometimes the build-up of detergent or yeast can cause blisters. Or, if you use disposables, have you tried switching brands to see if that helps? Nature Baby care seem really gentle and worked for my DS with sensitive skin (no perfumes, chlorine, etc.).

Hope you figure it out soon - sounds reallly painful.

He does wear cloth. I use super sensitive soap and in little amounts on the diapers. How would you deal with yeast build up on the diaper. So, maybe I should change out the diapers for a little bit?

thanks.

My daughter has something that sounds very similar and it's eczema. It only shows up in the winter. She's potty-trained during the day and wears sposies at night, and she still gets the blisters if we don't stay on top of it with rx steroid creams.

Was he cultured for staph? That's a really common location and appearance and cloth can harbor staph. What I would do is use Bactroban cream (I imagine they prescribed that?) as it will treat even resistant staph or any other infection that might be the cause and switch to disposable until it is completely gone. Meanwhile you want to wash those diapers on very hot and dry on hot of course. If they are prefolds boil them. Basically, treat them as you would anythign that comes in contact with staph. Be careful about his towels (hot wash) and wash out any baby tub or similar as well.
