My acupuncturist says not more than 2,000 units of Vitamin C a day when pregnant. Which stinks b/c I usually take a ton of it when I feel something coming on.
If you are trying to prevent the flu, check out Washington Homeopathics (www.homeopathyworks.com). They have a remedy called Influenzium. It can be taken when you feel the flu coming on OR it can be taken as a preventative - 3 pills in one day once every 2 weeks. They take the strains from the flu shot and put it into the remedy. It apparently has the H1N1 strains in it too. They come out w/ a new one each year w/ the current strains. |
Vitamin C in VERY large amounts (several grams) *early* in pregnancy can be a problem. It can cause the corpus luteum to deteriorate resulting in a fall in progesterone and miscarriage. Since vitamin C is water soluble and your body gets rid of the extra in your urine I don't see the point in taking more than a few hundred to 1000 mg. Its not going to stick around.
