UCing away from home?

I live with a roommate. I'm worried that I won't be 100% comfortable if he's home when I'm in labor. I also worry that the dogs will be around (and if you lock them in a room they bark nonstop). So DH and I were thinking of renting a cabin for a week. The ones we're looking at have a full kitchen and bath and are detached (so no worries about being overheard). There's also heat and AC. They're only 30 minutes from here and we'd go in early labor so no worries about birthing in the car.

I'm due in April, which isn't exactly prime camping season, so one of the cabins will probably be available. If not, I'll just stay here and have RM take the dogs for a long walk or something. We'll just prepare for both possibilities.

I've heard of a lot of people going to hotels and things to give birth. If you've UC'd or even HB'd away from home, where did you go? Did you regret it? What would you do differently?

I haven't done that but I think the cabin thing sounds really nice and relaxing. I think your plan sounds good.

I am debating this myself. I really think I'm going to be going up/uc this time. Our 'home' though is a camper and right now a fairly small one. I'm hoping we will have a new one with more space before the baby gets here but we'll see. If we don't have somewhere with more space then I definitely may be going somewhere else to give birth just so I can be more comfortable and have more room. Depending on where we are I'd probably try to get a hotel suite if we went somewhere else. I think that would make the transition during birth easier since there would be plenty of space in the room and a large tub to use instead of setting up a birth pool. Right now I really have no idea where I will be giving birth though.
