need a crochet pattern for a beanie for my husband

I want to crochet a simple beanie (skull cap hat) for my husband using just hdc stitches.I crocheted a hat for my 4 year old and it turned out great. I tried to add more rounds to that pattern to make my husbands but it didn't work. If there is a way to add more correctly, what is it? I've been crocheting only a year
