Hip bone bruises with Ergo... which SSCs don't do this?

I'm trying to choose a SSC to use with my 18-pound 5-month-old. I used my sister's new Ergo, and it was comfortable at first, but after a while I got sore (bruised-feeling) spots on the front of my hipbones that lasted for a day or two. That made me remember that the same thing used to happen to me years ago when I would wear a friend's baby in her Ergo (a much older model, but the same effect).

So. Has anyone else had this happen? Can you use other SSCs without it happening? What about Becos?

(FYI, I'm small and sort of bony, but with proportionally wide hips.)

I'd look for one you could wear higher than your hips, more MT or buckle-tai style...I'm not an SSC expert, so someone else will have to give you brands, but it could be your body shape just doesn't like how something tight rubs it there.

One little thought occurred to me...is it possible you're wearing the waistband too loose or too tight? If it's too loose, the LO's weight might cause pressure points right on where your hip bones stick out instead of distributing the weight evenly around where the waist belt is. Too tight, and whatever sticks out WILL get rubbed badly!

The thing is, I like to have the weight on my hips, rather than my shoulders. I kept trying to loosen the waistband, but every time I did, the weight all migrated to my shoulders. Maybe there's a carrier with a narrower waist band that I could put below my protruding hip bones?

i make mine as tight as i can. then it doesnt rub. have you tried to tighten it more? it really should be nice and firmly adjusted for the best possible support. i use an ergo.

I use a Gemini and do not have that and the weight is on my hips. I am really short, though, and found the Ergo to go too low on me no matter how I adjusted it.

is the waist belt resting on jeans? I find that when I have a heavy pack, or child, and the waist belt is resting on my jeans, I get bruises where the belt loops are (I'm 5'5" and bony too).

That said, my Beco is FABULOUS and fits me MUCH better than the Ergo did once I lost my preggo weight (I wear a size 2-3 and the Ergo doesn't tighten enough to me to wear anymore).
