Fleas!!!

Last week we discovered we had fleas. We did a very thorough cleaning, vacuuming, and treated the cat with the essential oil flea treatment. Well we still have em!! DH wants to spray so I just read up on natural treatments and was wondering if any ones has had experience and or success with something natural. Some ideas I read were sprinkle salt or cedar chips on carpet. Eat garlic, brewers yeast, and AC vinegar to keep em off you. Make soap and water traps by putting it in a dish under a light over night, the fleas will be attracted by the light , jump in and drown.

Also wondering what exactly is in the flea killing sprays that people commonly use. I'm gonna have DH research that tonight.

What have you done? What would you do? Would you go natural or chemical?

Man fleas really suck!!

Thanks for your help!!

I have this flea that hangs out on my kitchen counter. I am sure it is a flea, but I find it a very strange location for one.

I use advantage on my pets. Not natural. BUT we were infested by fleas a few years ago and it was horrible and drove me batty. Instead of spraying around the house, I put advantage on them (we have three cats and a dog) and this is suppose to kill the fleas on them and any that jump on them, eventually getting rid of the problem. The pets are walking repellents/flea killers. Except for this one flea that hangs out on my kitchen counter. I kill him every day with my fingers, but somehow he is there the next day.

p.s. This did cure (?) the flea infestation a few years ago - I believe I noticed an improvement in a month, but it takes several months as the larvae has to be killed off too. And my pets did not have fleas for a few years, at least noticeable, until now. I dont use advantage year round, just during high flea season...(fall)
p.s.s. I now buy the advantage online to avoid paying the vet fee to check out the pets. Although if you choose this route, you may want to discuss it first with your vet.

We have to switch back and forth (switch yearly or so) between Advantage and Frontline (both of which are available at the pet food store here). None of the easy/natural options worked for us.

Oh, and because it doesnt snow here, we have to use it year round.
