coughing coughing coughing

My DS has been coughing like mad for days. Mostly at night. Wakes him up.

Why do people cough? I keep wondering...

He doesn't appear to have a cold. He is snotty (which we're all attributing to teething), so he could have some drainage maybe causing coughing?

It is apparently winter already so the heat's turned on, and subsequently, I've got his humidifier again to counter the dry central heat. When the heat first kicks on, I certainly coughed... but after a few weeks now, I think the house has settled a bit.

What else could I be missing?

Maybe he is just.... sick?

We have been dealing with this lately too. Coughing so bad at night sometimes DD would throw up! We attributed it to teething as well, as she is getting her molars in. I think maybe the teething lowered her immune system a bit because the runny nose/cough seemed to morph into a cold or something. We took her to the ped who said there wasn't much we could do but keep an eye on her. DH and I also got something similar, so we concluded she did have a cold.

Hope your LO feels better soon!

My younger son had the throwing up from coughing thing a couple weeks ago. Its a cold. Nothing more or less. They do it at night because when they lay down, everything drains to the back of the throat and tickles it. I tried to keep the milk (silk) intake to a minumum for that week because that seemed to be what would make him throw up. It really would make him more phlegmy.

Also, when the heat gets kicked on, not only is it dry, but it blows dust around. Dust thats been sitting in the furnace all summer We buy these little filter things that go over the heat vents, and also try to change the fiilter on the furnace as often as possible.

allergies? when is the last time you changed your furnace filter?

I have the same thing. I'm still on the fence about whether its a cold or allergies, It seems gone sometimes during the day and worse at night which points to allergies, but then again I'm laying down.

could be a combo of the new cool, dry air and a cold or allergies. My DS has had an on-again-off-again cough the last couple weeks too. I have just made sure to change his sheets regularly, dust and vaccum his room once a week, and we just changed our filters too.

For nighttime, baby vicks works really well! I rub it on my DS's chest, back, and feet and he doesn't cough nearly as much (sometimes not at all!) at night even with a cold/allergies. I have also given him a 1/2 dose of Zyrtec before bed if it was really bad the night before (they have to be 2 yrs old to have that, don't know how old your DS is).
