There are several books...

The Diaper-Free Baby by Christine Gross-Loh is the one I recommend to everyone. It's a great general how-to on EC at all ages and stages. Makes it sound very accessible and easy (which it is!) and like something anyone can try. I recommend it to my mainstream mama friends when I'm trying to convince them to give EC a shot.

Diaper Free by Ingrid Bauer is the mother of EC literature. Ingrid Bauer is to EC as Ina May Gaskin is to home birth. But this book is not as much how-to as it is inspirational. I described it as the "unicorns and rainbows" EC book when I first read it. I EC'd pretty much all the time (not always at night) from the time my DD was two weeks old, but this book made me feel like...well, like an EC slacker. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing! It's super inspiring, and I recommend it to people who are already pretty committed to EC and want to be inspired by how wonderful EC can be and how it can change your life and help you bond with your baby. It's not as practical as Gross-Loh's book, IMO.

Infant Potty Training by Laurie Bouke is the scientific book on EC. She has lots of anthropological and cross-cultural studies, information about EC'ing historically and in other countries, stuff like that. Really awesome book, especially if you like a scientific approach and you want to be able to spout statistics at relatives who think EC is nuts.

And that's all the books I've read on EC.

The best online resource IMO, besides this forum which is fabulous!, is www.diaperfreebaby.org. Mostly because they have local support groups, for families who EC, similar to LLL groups for breastfeeding. So you can look and see if there's a local group in your area--if there is you should definitely go. Like any "playgroup," each group is really individual, but I love mine.

There's also a yahoo group on EC: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eliminationcommunication/. Great place to post questions. There are a LOT of folks on there, quite a few from countries where EC is the norm, so it's always a helpful place to get advice.

Hmm...is it sad that I have all that information at the tip of my fingers, even though my DD is 2.5 and been a grad for a while? Hehe. You can tell I spent the first six months of her life sitting around peeing her every fifteen minutes and reading about EC online constantly!

Oh--and since I'm posting all my favorite books and such--I think everybody who wants to try EC should read this article too. It's short and funny, and it makes a really important point that EC is never perfect or a linear process. Here's the link: http://www.brainchildmag.com/essays/...008_caliri.asp

And stick around this forum, it's awesome!

Welcome and congrats, EC's a blast!
