Inversions if Baby is Head Down?

At my 36 week appointment, baby was head down. However, I've had a lot of movement and it seems like baby may have moved to transverse or even breech. I was wondering if it would be okay to do some inversions, even if baby might actually still be head down. If baby is still head down, I definitely don't want to do anything that might cause a change.

I'm wondering the same thing. I am fairly certain that inversions will encourage PROPER positioning, though, rather than causing your baby to turn no matter what position s/he is currently in.

I'm a prenatal yoga teacher and it's true - if your babe is head down, you're not going to do anything to change it.

Positions that help encourage a breech to turn head down: child's pose with your tush up high - here's a video of it using a couch: http://wonderfullymadebelliesandbabi...-position.html

That's certainly a possibility! BUt on the ground and holding for 10 minutes is great too. Some people do it on stairs - a little less high than the couch.

Supported bridge pose: http://hillarysyogapractice.files.wo...7/img_2320.jpg

Although instead of a block, you could use something more cushy, like a yoga bolster/firm couch cushions.

Spend time on all 4's. These are the best ways to encourage a baby who isn't optimally positioned. But also it would be good to make certain your thoughts are correct that baby is out of head down.

Spinningbabies.com has a good section about it. It says pretty clearly that you won't flip a head down baby by doing inversions

Thanks everyone! I see my midwife Monday, so we'll find out. In the meantime, I'll try some of Fertilemyrtle's poses!

Spinning babies says that if the baby is head down, inversions are fine, so long as you do them no more than 30 seconds at a time, 3 times a day. It's good for getting the uterus in balance. HTH

I had a really stubborn breech babe up until 38 weeks last pg.
I tried gentle yoga, the supported stuff and propped up... it didn't work for us.
I had my appointment booked for Webster, but you know what did it? This is kind of aggressive positioning, my MW was fine w/ it as long as I didn't feel woozy, but you might wanna check in with your HCP?

I lined our staircase with pillows. With DH's help, I proceeded to lay down head-down the stairs. I put a heating pad on my pelvis and an ice pack on her little head (to encourage her to move to where it was cozy). I did this 15mins/time about 3x/day for a few days and on the third- I felt her flip! It was super cool.

I always heard inversions wouldn't flip a vertex babe, but I was scared, so I stopped inverting completely after that. She stayed head-down until her birth at 41 weeks.

Hope yours turns, you've got time yet.
