Looking for longer books with not too many senteces per page

We're moving abroad soon and DH gave me the go ahead to buy a bunch of books for the next 1-2 years for DD so we can ship them there (we can get English books there but they are beyond belief expensive!) where I can get them here for pretty cheap at half.com.

Anyways DD has started to get into longer books (The Cat in the Hat or the Gruffalo or where the wild things are, for instance, are good lengths). But if they are too full of sentences per page she quickly loses interests.

Here's a few of her favorites so far that we pick up from the library often that we're going to buy. If you have any other suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

the cat in the hat
dora's wizzle world adventure
go dog go
are you my mother?
horton hears a who
ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY
No T-Rex in the library
Llama llama misses mama
the Gruffalo

You should check out bookcloseouts.com too. I get a lot of our cheap books there.

What age do you expect your DD to be while she is reading/enjoying these books?

DS1 went through a phase where absolutely loved little critter (I eventually refused to read them anymore... I was *THAT* sick of LC...), bernstein bears, etc. He's 3.5 now and starting to be OK with the longer chapter books (ie My Father's Dragon, Amelia Bedelia, Little Bear, Mouse on a Motorcycle, etc). Anything by Dr Suess though was/is always a hit

Thanks, I haven't heard about the site before!

Basically from about age 2-4.

Anything by Mo Willems - the Gerald and Piggie books have quite a few pages but few words per page. We still love them now and my son is 8!

My son loves Melanie Watt's books - The Chester series, The Scaredy Squirrel series, Augustine. He also looooved Sandra Boyton at that age. The Mercer Mayer books are great fun too (Little Critters)

I got my oldest "The Complete Adventures of Curious George" for his 2nd birthday. It's really long, he LOVED it, and we read it so much that the pages fell out. My boys still like to read it 6 years later even in its sad state.

I don't think you can predict at 2yo what your DC will want at 4yo. She might still be interested in basic picture books, but she may have become a precocious reader and want phonics readers, or she may not read but have long focus to listen to books like Winnie the Pooh being read out loud, or she may want only books that are very very girly. Who knows?

Just b/c the books will be very expensive to buy in the country you will be in doesn't mean you need to buy them there. So long as you have internet access, you can still order books from amazon.com, half.com, etc. You will need to pay for international shipping, but you would need to pay for that now anyway (as well as regular shipping to your house.)

We like the Berenstein bears books, they are just long enough, without going on forever.
