What was the first taste you put on your baby's tongue?

It's been so long since my other one's were babies. I think avocado was the first thing they had. My new little DD is 6 months, but not sitting up unassisted yet. I'm not going to start feeding her solids but she looks ready for little tastes just for fun.
What was the first thing your baby ever had besides breastmilk?

for DS it was a french fry... he grabbed it off my moms plate and shoved the end in his mouth and started gnawing. When he realized he could get something out of it that tasted good, he refused to give it up... held it so tight the potato was coming out either side lol... finally dropped it when we gave him a bigger one.
wasnt like a mcdonalds fry though, was a huge homemade one

Oh gosh, DD tasted lots of things other than breastmilk. Our fingers, her sister's fingers, lots of toys, the carpet, the cat....

The first things she ingested were vitamin drops, a couple different medicines, and hopefully-not-too-dirty bathwater.

After that, we went old-school and tried rice cereal. Boring, right?

For Em, it was a tiny piece of peach.

Well, the first non-breastmilk that Cecilia ingested was gripe water. But once she was over 3 months old, she didn't have anything but milkies until 6 months old. I tested her readiness to start BLW by seeing if she had lost the infant tongue thrust with a dab of homemade dairy free mashed potatoes on my fingertip. When that went down just fine with none getting spit out, we did avocado that weekend.

yea the first non breastmilk think my LO got was cherry supreme maylox for her reflux... Shes was around a week or so old..
but her first actual non breastmilk food was some beechnut sweet potoatoes. I di start the first mini tastes with jarred stuff and it went well we quickly moved onto real foods though once we tried a handful of tastes and I saw no reactions to the foods. I think bannanas was her first taste of a whole food not jarred which incidently I gave to her after she gave me her what the heck are you trying to feed me face when trying the "puree" banana form.

beans. frijoles. pinto beans. and it was an accident. She stuck her hand in them and shoved it in her mouth in a split-second. It was then that I figured she was ready for solids!

my husband let her try marinara sauce off the tip of his finger when she was 6 months old. LOL. Her first REAL food though was sweet potato (roasted).
