When is this pertussis peak supposed to be over?

I am in OH, and they are saying that per capita, we are getting more pertussis cases than California now. I am due to have a baby March 2 and am really hoping that it might subside by then.

My 5 yr old is unvaxxed and in school, so I am worried for him too.

When you read the article in the paper about getting the shot, it says it may not prevent WC - that it may just make it a less severe case. Which just goes to show it won't necessarily prevent transmission.

They had a couple on our local news last night w/ 7 week old twins that had it and were hospitalized - one almost died. they don't know where they got the illness.

This is really frazzling my nerves.

Shows how much I pay attn-I haven't heard a peep about Pertussis in OH. Anyhow, perhaps revisit your decisions on why you aren't vaxing and why you are wavering now? I know having a nb influences the judgement. Here is some info to look over. http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/...nes-work/dtap/
I bet if you searched here for the CA outbreaks and what others did, you mind find more info. Also search Pertussis + bf.

If your baby is due in March, just make sure you keep your baby in and close to you, breastfeed, keep your vitamin C levels up, rest, and be healthy.  Be careful who comes near your baby.

The vaccine is against a bacteria.  It will not prevent transmission to others, so a recently vaxed little one can give your baby pertussis.  The same for a recently vaxed adult.
