Help! I don't know what to do, my almost 7yo, first grade DD has always been really good, we have always had a very good connection (thanks AP!) but lately things have been crazy. First off, she has always had a problem with making it to the bathroom on time, the same with my dss, I was hoping she wouldn't do it too. She just forgets to go, or doesn't want to stop playing and then it's too late. Usually when she does that it happens more than once a day, then she goes weeks with out it happening again. Lately she's been doing it a lot, and now I have picked her up at school wet, twice. She never did it at school before.
I am also having a really big problem with her focusing. At home I have to tell her many, many times to do the same thing. I am constantly telling her to focus, she will start to tell me something and forget. She will just basically space out when she's supposed to be doing something, or start focusing on something unrelated. It literally will take hours for her to clean up her room, and it's not that messy.
She is doing this in class too, the teacher says that she will be showing them something on the board and DD is staring in the other direction. But then when they are tested on it she aces it. So it really isn't causing issues with her lessons but she doesn't finish work in class either because she daydreams or talks. Just basically gets off task.
She is ahead of her class on many subjects, especially reading....but I don't know if that matters. She has always been in the top few of her class.
I am not sure if she's bored or if she has an issue with attention or if this is a phase? It's just so frustrating!!!
I guess I should mention what we have sort of thought was going on, we have a new baby and my husband and I are very busy with our own schooling and baby, so life has been hectic. I would definitely chalk up the accidents to that because that seems to be the way her phases go, when something is going on she has more accidents. But this attention thing is really new....and really difficult to understand. I find myself with a short fuse with her because I am so tired of telling her things over and over and over again.
Can anyone relate?
