BLW at 4months old?

My LO will be 5months on November 15th. She can sit unassisted and loves to reach for everything. We were at chick-fil-a the other day and she was sitting on my lap and she reached for my chicken bun and started to gnaw on it. I don't think she actually took a chunk off but she probably would have if I let her (i took it from her). The rest of the time, she focused on my plate and tried to grab at everything on it. I really was waiting to start her at 6months or when she showed readiness...do you think it is to early to start her on finger foods (avacado, sweet potatoes...).
Is she just reaching because she reaches for ANYTHING/Everything and puts it directly in her mouth (not related to food readiness)?

Any comments appreciated.

I would say that she is just reaching for anything and everything at that age. I would be really reluctant to start food so early. If you said she was almost 6 months (like in the next week or two) I might give it a go, but not at her age. Her gut is still closing this early on.

If you want to give her something while the rest of you are eating, consider breastmilk cubes (we used a mesh feeder for the sake of easy handling).

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing. I will hold off awhile longer. Never thought about the breastmilk cubes!

I agree with Cecilias's mama ( I always get a kick outta saying that )
The most I'd go for is the breastmilk cubes or maybe the ocasional ice cube in the mesh feeder. My LO wouldn't have anything to do with mommys milk frozen but LOVED the ice cube.. But be careful even with that they really don't need extra water over nursing.

My DS1 did the same thing at the same age as yours.. he took a peach right out of my hand and started to eat it. I'm all about watching for your own baby's signs and not a book (or what have you).. I never really fed him baby food, but if he wanted to try what I was having I didn't stop him. FWIW, my DS2 didn't do that until 7-8m and I went with his cues then too.

I think at that age, they just reach for everything. It's pretty normal. I'd wait a while longer on solids, but I started giving my dd frozen BM popsicles or cubes at that age and she enjoyed it.

I'm like this as well-- to a point. If my 7 month old grabbed a bottle of beer, I'd stop her from drinking it. I feel like food at 4 months is similar, in my opinion. Just because she wants it doesn't mean it's the best thing for her to have!
