Small rash patch in diaper area - allergy or teeth?

DD has had a persistent patch of irritated skin an inch or two in from her hip bone. It goes away occasionally, with lots of bare bum time and a bit of bum balm here and there, but when it comes back it is exactly the same shape and place. The skin has lots of tiny red bumps and is the size of a quarter.

DD is drooling quite a bit now and has had a few red bumps on her chin and cheeks (similar to what I see near her hip) but those aren't as persistent.

Could she be allergic to something or could teething be the culprit?

Also, she's started waking frequently during the night - like every hour - when she used to be a 10pm till 8am no wake ups kind of gal. I suspect reflux, but perhaps also allergy/intolerance related?

Anyone have any suggestions of things to try?

For that kind of rash my first thought is either friction or sensitivities (either to detergent or food). Does it consistently go *completely* away with bare butt time?

Ds had a rash (or eczema) in his diaper area too. It was between his penis and belly button, and always started in the same spot. Sometimes it spread more or looked worse. It did seem slightly better (but never went away) when we started changing immediately after he peed or had bare butt days, but it was pretty clear that it wasn't caused by the diapers. His doc said there was no way it could be caused by food, but the pattern with sweet potato was pretty clear (in hindsight).

The few times it got really bad we traced back to sweet potato in our food diary (we later had him tested for IgG sensitivities, and sweet potato was a positive).

It still persisted at a milder level, and it actually went away completely a month or so after we stopped ED'ing and started consuming a wide variety of foods. That was summer-time perhaps. Now he has eczema on him bum cheeks, and inner elbows, and has watery/mucousy poop. I think I have a good list going of possible suspects, and I think I've removed the poop culprit. Still, I admit it's possible that it's not food related or that it's nutrition related.

Frequent waking can be food related too.

Well, I'm no expert, I'm just starting to learn about all of this stuff myself. But my DD's rash in that same area (along with frequent nightwaking and chronic ear infections) is part of what inspired me to try cutting out dairy and gluten for myself and DD. It hasn't been long, but sleep seems to be improving. The rash got better a few days after we stopped dairy, but it hasn't completely gone away yet.

It's my understanding that teething rash on the face is because of direct contact with saliva (since their hands are in their mouths so much when they're teething). So I wouldn't think a rash that's under the diaper or clothing would be caused by teething, unless maybe if it's an area that experiences contact with urine or that nasty teething poo.
