Spin off on Front Load Washers/Steam function?

I had a thread on my own debating on whether or not to get a front loader to save on water and money and bills. I really want one, and think it would save a ton on our water bill.

So now my next question; who here has one with the steam function, and if so; are you glad you got it? is it worth the extra $ ? Also, what does it mean in the specs when they say it has "sanitary" function?

Thank you so much

I don't think I have used the steam function on mine unless it is part of the other settings.I have used allergen and sanitary when it came to things with poo or urine.Bedding I used allergen.

I suppose the water bill has not been too bad.Dh says I am a wash nut hence getting the front loader.

I will have to read up on the steam wash, but for me I usually just use the normal wash setting, and adjust the dirty rating.

I would get something with all options,so I COULD use it if needed...if the cost isn't a huge amount. If it were like 200 more forget it! Also,if I read steam washing was causing a lot of break downs I would avoid it. I never like to get things that are super new, because there are always *bugs* that need to be worked out.

Good points! I don't know how much better steam would be than sanitize anyway, but I guess it's more for wrinkles as well.

BTW, what kind of washer do you have? I've been looking at Whirlpool Duet and Bosch at the Sears Outlet. I know B has a better warranty but is more $ for the machines.

Thanks for answering! I was getting very sad with no takers!

I have a FL washer w/steam function. I use the sanitary cycle more than the steam, though. I use sanitary a few times a week for panties and towels/washcloths (sometimes for sheets, too, it they need it). The allergen cycle automatically uses steam or I have the option to add steam to one of the normal cycles. I have an LG. If you don't opt for steam, at least consider a machine w/a heater on board. Overall, we have saved a ton on water and electricity w/the new machine. We got it last black friday for a super deal. This is the machine, but ours is white (we also have the matching dryer): http://reviews.bestbuy.com/3545/9481081/lg-steamwasher-4-2-cu-ft-9-cycle-large-capacity-washer-graphite-steel-reviews/reviews.htm?sort=rating

I don't know about the steam function as I don't *think* mine has that, but I do like and use the sanitary function for diapers. I think it means that it heats the water up hotter than what you have it set at on your hot water heater.
