What else can I use to disinfect humidifier?

I need to use bleach to disinfect humidifier according to the manual. What else can I use if I want to avoid bleach? Is bleach toxic? Can I use vinegar instead? Thanks.

I've used vinegar and bac-out. Also used colloidal silver spray at one point. We leave it outside on a sunny, dry day, running with the vinegar in it. Then let the parts dry in the sun.

But, it eventually got to a point where those strategies didn't work, and I did a bleach water soak. THAT worked.

Diluted vinegar soak first. If that fails, dilute bleach.
