Wet cough.

My DD has a chesty cough, where you can hear the phlegm trying to work its way out. She resists coughing which I am sure doesnt help it come out. Its gets a little worse at night. I am sure its not whooping cough as it not a constant thing and there is no "whoop" for air.

Right now I run the humidifier at night and rub some vaporub on her chest and I give her a bath with some eucalyptus oil before bed. I give her 2000 IU vitamin D and a 500 mg chewable C. I also give her homeopathic cough syrup which doesnt seem to help much.

Is there anything else I can do for her? She has had this cold for 13 days now and the cough just started on Monday, which makes me think she is having 2 colds in a row rather than 1 long cold. She has also had 3 fevers during the past 2 weeks.

This is the worst cold she has ever had. She usually runs a fever and is well after 3-4 days.

You can put castor oil packs on her chest to help draw out some of the congestion. O usually use thieves oil as well on the chest.

The last time DD had a cough, the thing that really helped was some eucalyptus and stuff shower tablets, they're round discs that you put on the floor of the tub and turn on the shower. I saw improvement with just one, and I'd tried my usual box of tricks without making a noticeable change before that.

Hope she's better by now though.

They sell cough syrups with thyme that work well, or recipies online to make your own thyme remedy.

I don't think much of most homeopathic cough syrups.  There's one that is excellent, but it's not widely available.

This cough that's going around is BRUTAL.  If you have access to single remedies you can read up on ant crudum, ant tart, phosphorous and ipecac.  They've been doing a good job for most people.   You can also do a combo as well if you like.

The mucus is *really* thick and hard to expel.  It also hold on for many many days.  There are a number of things you can do in terms of home remedies as well.  Garlic poultices are excellent for congestion, kali sulph and nat sulph cell salts are working nicely also.  Rosemary steam is beautiful to help break things up.  Thyme will work also.  I have no objection to chest rubs either!  You can even concoct one with a few different oils.  Diffusers at night with simply eucalyptus and white camphor can be heavenly.

I was ready to resort to a mustard pack for one person in particular, but essential oils and a combination remedy kicked it.

I would love to know about the homeopathic cough syrup. I have also read about using black mustard seed in a foot bath for congestion. It was highly recommended in a book I was reading.  I don't have any experience w/it or know of anyone who does. Do you have experience w/it? If you do, is it all that 'they' say it is? TIA for any extra info... my dd is just now starting to get over this nasty thing right now, but the congestion, while better than it was, is still there. :-(

OP- I sure hope your dd is feeling better real soon! I've been using vit c and d like you and also CLO and probiotics everyday for my dd.
