sudden bedwetting?

What could cause a kid, who has NEVER wet the bed before, to start all the sudden? He has been potty trained for 18 months or so and will be 4 on Thanksgiving.

Last night was the second night in a row.
He has had more candy this week than ever in his life, and dh shared an orange crush with him at lunch yesterday, if any of that matters. We don't do much in the way of sugar EVER. (at least for the kids, lol)

He had a cold for a week, then the day before halloween super high fever, diarrhea some of this week, like once a day, and seemed a little stuffy again yesterday.
Not sure if any of that is related or not.

hmm- maybe get him 100% cranberry juice (TJ's has it pretty cheap right now). You can dilute with seltzer and/or sweeten it yourself. If it is a UTI that will really help.

Anything going on his life-major changes, death/loss, etc? Big emotional swings can cause bedwetting too

I am pregnant, but he's known about that since the beginning, so its not a brand new thing. Our house is for sale, but again, it has been for a while, so I don't think thats it... Hmmm...

Definitely getting some cranberry juice, thanks!

There are numerous possible causes, but the one that should be ruled out first is UTI. Just call up your HCP and they should be able to provide you with a sterile sample cup for him to pee in and take it too the lab. You can certainly start treating it with cranberry juice, too.

In older kids, bed wetting is usually a form of parasomia, similar to sleep-walking and sleep-talking. Just as with sleep-walkers and sleep-talkers, it can happen more frequently when the person is stressed, over tired, had an especially stimulating day, etc. It often runs in families.

DS only wets the bed when he is having a growth spurt. He sleep-walks and talks when he's had very stimulating days.

He slept through last night! I am also wondering if maybe he got too warm and slept too deeply, so last night I made sure he was cooler. Its hard here, it can be 75 in the house at bedtime, but by 4am its 50 or less.

I got some cranberry juice also, so I'll try that this week and keep an eye on him.

Thank you!

Woo Hoo! Hope it was just a fluke and you get another dry night

It could also be a reaction to the candy, either the food coloring, flavoring, or ingredients that he hasn't had and might be sensitive to. Bedwetting is a common food intolerance symptom.

Another dry night, thank goodness! I think it was the candy, I really do. Now I feel bad, but I didn't want to take ALL his halloween candy from him! Anyhoo, I threw it out anyway, so maybe we'll be good from here out.
