Prevacid compound belly bomb day 3?

I've heard about the instability of Prevacid compounds and had planned to call my ped and ask about Solutabs. Today was day 5 giving Prevacid and since day 3, about an hour after giving my baby his medicine he starts SCREAMING and crying and has the worst wet hiccups. He arches. He's inconsollable. At first I thought it was a fluke. Then the second day I thought it was the cole slaw I had eaten. Today it occurred to me it's the Prevacid! It takes me hours to get him to bed (though the worst of it lasts about 30 minutes).

So tomorrow is Sunday. I'm scared to give my baby his medicine because his reaction is worse than the reflux. Is it bad to miss a dose?

They have an after hours peds clinic I can call but a) I doubt they'd switch the medicine and b) they'll probably think I imagining things. I'm definitely not imagining this!

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! I will call my own ped Monday and share my research/experience but I don't know what to do tomorrow.

Why do these things always happen on a weekend?

Our LO screamed on Prevacid (solutabs) also, and had terrible insomnia with it. I think we stayed on it for 2 days and gave up. We switched to Ranitidine (Zantac) which took several days to kick in but is working fine...

If you miss a dose it won't work- but like you said, if it's worse than the reflux, why put yourselves through it? I'm sure you're not imagining it.

It can't hurt to call the clinic and see what they say. Good luck, and hugs.

Thanks Buzzer. We tried Zantac first and it helped "slightly" but I couldn't get my LO to swallow it since it was so repulsive. The Prevacid actually seems to working (either that or eliminating dairy has made the difference.) I'm glad it's working for your baby.

My baby is so happy and mellow all day and most of the night---except for the hour after he has his dose of Prevacid.

I will call the clinic. Maybe I'll luck out and my doctor will be on call (not good odds though).
