I was wondering if anyone knows if a disruption to breastfeeding can cause a change in your menstrual cycle? My 15-month-old and I briefly stopped and re-started breastfeeding due to a combination of travel and thrush.

I started my period yesterday, two weeks early, but it seems to have just been some spotting. I've always been very, very regular, even when I re-started my period post-pregnancy, and I've never had any spotting. We haven't had sex since my last period, so it can't be related to pregnancy.

My husband suggested it could be related to the disruption in nursing--we were nursing 5-6 times a day, then I was pumping 2-3 times, then not at all, then he was nursing once or twice a day but not getting any milk, and now we are back to 4-5 times a day and he is actually getting milk.

My husband's mom died of ovarian cancer when he was a teenager, so any irregularity in my reproductive system makes him very nervous. Just thought I'd see if anyone here knows before I bother the midwife?
