ARRRRGHHHHHHHHH **Bangs Head Against Wall**

I am so annoyed at the moment.
Our son is showing classical signs of having some kind of learning disability - And I can NOT get a diagnosis!!!
I have posted here before - I live in the UK and he has already seen the Paediatrician, Doctor, Health Visitor, Teachers', School nurse and Educational Phychologist and NO ONE seems interested in listening to us let alone diagnosing him - they don't even see his problem - Even though he's already been kept back a year at school!!!

I feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall and I am fed up of having to explain myself over and over again to be ignored and my thoughts, feelings and his behaviour dismissed!

I have been thinking somewhere on the ASD spectrum, then I think ADHD, I am now thinking bi-polar as he also matches a lot of those 'signs' too - but without proper medical input I am just reading information online and guessing his condition!!!

It took the 'health professionals' OVER 5 years to listen to us that he had a bowel problem and he is now receiving treatment for that - but why don't they fricking listen to us - we ARE the parent and we KNOW our children!!!

Ok, rant over lol xx

That is so frustrating. I'm sorry you're not getting any support or help that you need. I wish I had some more advice, but I'm not sure what the laws regarding disabilities are in the UK. Maybe you could check in your finding the tribe forum to see if anyone has any suggestions regarding a doctor that would work with you.

Is there any way you can get your ds in to see Neuro Psych? Or a Developmental Pediatrician?

Or maybe consider homeschooling for awhile?

I went through that too. I finally got help this year for my boy, after just hounding the community mental health place, and she told me the only reason they finally gave him services was because he sounded depressed.

I have him in therapy, but I also took him out of school because his dx is sensory processing so it's just better for him to be away from the chaos in our specific situation.

I hope you find some help!!

Many thanks!
We're going to see his paeditrician tomorrow morning, but I have a feeling we're going to be shrugged off again!

I am seriously considering home schooling him - But having 4 younger children, including 9 month old Twins .. Well I see that could be a problem

WIll keep you all updated, thanks x

Hi again. I was wondering how you were getting on...apparently not good huh?
I think homeschooling him would be something you really need to think about....you did say the school was helping with his language/social skills. But I know how frustrated you are!! Did you call Bristol Childrens? I think you need to stop looking for a diagnoses yourself, as you will probably see a little bit of symptoms in your son for lots of different things, and this will just freak you out more. You really need to get somewhere bigger, even London if possible that has more experience dealing with children with disabilities. I am so sorry you are still going through this. If you need to talk, feel free to PM me. ((HUGS))

Thanks hun - I never did call Bristol after!
I meant to but I don't know what to say and if I can indeed, self refer him!
I've just spoken to the health visitor who will 'mention it' to the School nurse (but none of these are going to diagnose him, even if they DO know what symptoms are what!!!)
We have the social services involved and are having 'multi agency meetings' so I will re-tell them (No, make that SHOUT) at them about my concerns!
We're seeing his paediatrician this afternoon and I will ask about a neuro something and someone else above even her head (tbh, none of them have the slightest idea)
I also think I am going to record his behaviour to physically SHOW them what he's like!

He needs more help and support at School and I really don't think it's something I can offer him at home, having 4 younger children than him, 2 being 9 Month old Twins.
I really do wish I could, but it's just another thing the social services can intervein and say 'Oh, well there must be some kind of abuse going on if you're going to home school him' or such like, you probably know what they're like!

Anyway, will update later this evening, if not tomorrow about how the paediatrician appointment goes!

~~Hugs and Kisses to all~~
