QUICK ANSWERS NEEDED: Does PUL go bad? Going to a tot-swap with CDs. To buy or not to buy??

I'm returning to a tot swap today for the 50% off sale and am thinking of buying some PUL covers. Do those go bad, loose their waterproofness?? Would you buy used from an anonymous source?

Since PUL is a waterproof layer ironed on to a fabric, it is certainly possible for PUL products to lose their waterproof quality over time. However, I've not seen this happen too often- usually with flawed PUL or extreme heat (like constant drying on high for long periods). I personally would not hesitate to purchase used PUL covers. Just inspect the velcro carefully before buying them and disinfect them before use with your preferred method (I recommend washing with some TTO).

HTH!

Jaime, BTW, I'm going to the tot-swap in Timmonium. The thing is crazy huge. A bit overwhelming if you dont' like to shop or don't need a bunch of stuff but good for a mama who gave all her stuff away 9 years ago. ;-) Open today from 10-something.

Elastic and velcro go bad much more often than PUL. Tug at and stretch the leg elastic, especially.

The PUL in my 2006 Fuzzi Bunz developed holes around the leg casings - yeah I did dry them for the first year or so until I realized I shouldn't! But it's pretty obvious - you just look around the elastics and see if you can see any pinholes.

PUL can definitely go 'bad'. My Thirsties covers are delaminating after a year of use and my BB coverall is starting to also. You can tell delamination is occurring, by checking for little bubbles in the TPU where it is visibly not attached to the fabric anymore. It's a real head-scratcher for me, I have never dried my cover in a dryer and always wash them separate with clothes.

Avoid any diapers made in China for sure, the PUL tends to delaminate. Aso avoid TPU and try to get PUL diapers. You can tell TPU because it looks like a bunch of tiny dots on the PUL.
