Making bees wax crayons...a failed attempt any ideas

My dd and I tried to make bees wax crayons yesterday and failed. I am wondering if anyone has done this and been successful. We melted beeswax and added the gel food coloring. That did not work so we tried a different type of concentrated food coloring that colored some of the wax but the wax is so hard it does not color. Thoughts, ideas, inspiration appreciated.

I have not made any yet, but I know you are supposed to add a small amt. of starch and another liquid oil.  Maybe i'll try it later this week.  Any one have ideas on what to use for molds?

You can often get seasonal ice cube trays, how about using those? Ooo, hang on, this is the Waldorf forum, so yes, definitely get something seasonal.  For instance.

Oil?? starch? I forgot the oil, what kind of starch?

I'll try again. I just used an ice cube tray I had just to see if it would work. You can buy metal candy molds in different shapes.

http://www.esoulshine.com/recipes.htm  Scroll down for the crayon recipe.  I disagree w/ the author's recommendation to use food coloring & would stick w/ pigment.

That is the recipe that I have.  I was going to replace the talc with arrowroot or corn starch and use cake paste dyes.  If you can find a non toxic pigment I suppose that would be better.  Thanks for the candy tin idea.  Oooh now I get to go to the cake store!
