do 2m olds really sleep this much?

my ds2 sleep almost all day and sleeps soundly through the night, only waking to feed 2-3 times. he only stays awake about an hour at a time in the day, then sleeps another hour, then is awake about an hour, then sleeps, etc.

and anytime he is in a carrier/wrap, he knocks out instantly, even if he just woke up!

is this ok? im sure it is ok, its just that i went back to work fulltime with ds1 when he was 3 weeks to 5 months so i kinda missed out on what babies do in the day time

funny thing is, i went back to work in the infant room of a child care center, but those babies were *always* up it was so loud, so i think thats why i expect him to be more awake, iykwim.

now that i SAH, its the total opposite

My 2mo is starting to be awake more during the day... awake for 1-2 hours and then sleeps for 1-3 hours, repeat. At night he only wakes 1-2 times to eat, and that's with him sleeping in bed with me!!! I'm still surprised that he doesn't wake more often to eat.

Remember there are many MANY variations of normal. Every baby is different.

I wonder that with mine too. She's almost four months old and she can sleep a good 13 and sometimes 14 hours at night. She does wake to eat a few times, but immediately goes back to sleep. During the day she's starting to be awake more but if she doesn't sleep after a couple hours of being awake is soooooo crabby. I'm alway torn between feeling like I'm helping her with regular naps so she's not cranky and then on the other hand not letting her be awake enough. I'm lucky if I can hold off on her bath until 6:30 pm and then totally asleep before 7. I think she's fine though. Just a kid that needs a ton of sleep.

mine goes back and forth.... last week she could be up for hours, then all this week was constant sleep and eat... i think in her case its a growth spurt, it happened 3 weeks ago too and she went up a clothing size about overnight!

That was my oldest. She took 4 hr naps until she was 6 yrs old!!! She still sleeps a good 12 hrs a night at 9 1/2 yrs. She had a super-high metabolism and just has always needed lots of sleep. Enjoy!

Sounds completly normal. Sleep is one of the healthiest things we can partake in; for this reason I always let my son have unlimted naps and sleep time.

I say enjoy this period of extra time on your hands..... It might not last....
