I made the decision not to include my mother in my last child's birth because she was not supportive. She wanted to be there but I felt that her negativity and fear would disrupt the birth process and upset me. I didn't want to have to hold her hand through the whole thing and worry about her freaking out and calling an ambulance. It sucked but it's what had to be done and I did call her as soon as everything was over with to come and hold her newborn granddaughter and rejoice with the family. She was disappointed but she got over it pretty quickly. FWIW.
