If A Woman's Place shuts its doors, what option do we have for (legal) homebirth in Chicago?

I had no idea! Jen attended the birth of both my children. She's really wonderful and her knowledge saved me from a transfer with my first.

I know, Jen was my MW too. We really loved our experience with her. I was *just* going through how much it would cost to have DC2 with her (she was out of network) and I guess that post saved me from making a $3,000 decision.

There are still other MW out there - Sarah Simmons, Hillary Keiser, um, hmm... :headscratch: some more, I know! So It's still possible to have a CNM attended HB, but just one less. By the time I get PG and birth (in 2012, i think) who knows what the climate is like - we could have licensure of CPMs or there could be no CNMs left for HB either.

Reading about the CDN model made me wistful too. If only...

With her gone we are down to 4 CNM's. Sarah Simmons, Hillary Keiser, Christina Oser, and Debbie Boucher.

My husband & I managed to conceive despite seeing each other on weekends only for the last 5 months. He took a job in Chicago and I'm in Cincinnati until our house sells.

Learning that I was 5 weeks pregnant has moved up our timeline for me moving to Chicago. This will be our first baby and I am VERY interested in having a homebirth.

Knowing that I'd eventually be moving to Chicago and eventually pregnant, I began doing some research on homebirth. I found out about Jen leaving via her blog & was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find another CNM who could attend a homebirth. I'm really excited to see that there are some others remaining.

In Cincinnati, I connected with a homebirth group that meets monthly but I haven't been to a meeting since after my 2nd m/c. Homebirth in Cincinnati is kinda underground. Is it the same way in Chicago? Is there a homebirth group in Chicago that regularly meets?

We are off December for the holidays but will resume in 2011.  So the schedule looks dead but, there will be more.

Thanks so much Carson!! I may PM you later, I am only 6w3d right now. A specialist is overseeing my care until I am 10 weeks. I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic about this pregnancy. My husband & I got so excited about the 2nd pregnancy and we were crushed when I miscarried.
