Elimination diet not working :(

nak

My 7 week old has had eczema since he was two weeks old. At first we were told it was baby acne, but after visiting the doc three times, he was finally diagnosed with eczema. We were given a steroid cream to use for two weeks once a day and the every second day for 7 days. It hasn't helped. The bumps on his face went away, but his skin is blotchy and pigmented.

Two weeks ago I started keeping a food diary and eliminated dairy from my diet (all forms of dairy). Three days ago I went on the Dr Sears diet. But his eczema isn't going away. Last night I made the very stupid mistake of eating crisps (i checked the ingredients - it had TBHQ) - and today he is in total agony. And his eczema is miles worse.

We're going to see a dermatologist today, but I'm not sure what else we should do.

What more should I eliminate from my diet (i clearly shouldn't eat crisps)?

I'm really concerned

thanks!!

I am also trying to see what is triggering my baby's eczema. She is in pain and itchy every hour of the day. Dairy (I think) is a huge trigger for her. I ate pizza on Saturday (I usually avoid dairy and cheese because I am lactose intolerant) and on Sunday not only was her eczema worse but she's congested, has really dark circles under her eyes and her eyelids were swollen.

Today I am starting total elimination of all allergens as per the whole life nutrition website and seeing how it affects her. I don't know what it is either and I desparately want to help her. I guess I don't know what to say except what someone else told me - anything could be a trigger - even a food you would never think of to be an allergen. I know that doesn't help much but I just wanted to say I am right there with you.

What are you eating on your ED? You may be eating something your babe still reacts to (my son reacted to 2 of the 5 foods I was eating). If it doesn't get any better in a few days, try rotating out one of the foods you are eating.

You could do a few things. The easiest is to get him tested for food sensitivites. I think that the should be able to test for a 7 month old.

The other is to eliminate ALL possible allergens. Wait quite some time. Then slowly introduce ONE at a time. Unless you can be really careful and strict on what you eat, this can be difficult.

And on a side note, my dd has had wheat problems since she was born (reflux). And a few months ago I tried wheat on her again. No reflux or anything. Well turns out she was having a reaction and got a big rash on her rear end. It has been well over a month and it is almost all the way gone. This has taken a MONTH to get better and she did not have that much wheat. So perhaps you need to look at it as baby not getting worse and stabalizing. Then in some time to get better.

And Omega 3s are important to help in the healing process.

thank you for the responses, Remijo, sorry you're experiencing this too.

The dermatologist has suggested blood tests, so we'll be doing that.

And he also prescribed creams which have really helped - it was clearly the crisps he was reacting to.

Does anyone have experience with the allery testing homeopaths do?
