Coping with anger

My dd is 5 1/2 years old and has eosinophilic esophagitis. She has not eaten anything by mouth in 1 year. She understands her diagnosis and as time has gone on is having more difficulty coping with it. At this point she is angry at herself because of her disease and angry at the situation in general. Does anyone have an older child with a disorder? It just seems like now that she is older and really gets what's going on things have only gotten harder. For instance, this week she needs to go under general anesthesia to have an endoscopy. She's been under general enough times to know what's going to happen and knowing makes it worse. It's not like when she was little and could spend the day sleeping on my chest and nursing after the procedure. She's going to spend the day sick with a sore throat and although I'll be there 100% of the time and give her lots of comfort, she's still the one going through it.

Writing this out has helped me clarify a thought: when she was little, this illness impacted me and my husband first and foremost. Now, it's her.

How do your older kids cope? Does anyone do therapy?

I know there's another mama here who has a child with EE. Maybe edit your title to include eosinophilic esophagitis and that might attract her attention.

for you and your daughter.

Both of mine are still young enough to not really know what is going on. I empathize with your situation and I know we will be there one day as well.
