I do not look forward to the time that she may have inhibitions about letting on that her favorite foods include mushrooms, olives, and zucchini.

I think it is because
1) the veggies he eats are not just boring steamed ones.
2) there are some vegetarian kids at his school
3) his cafeteria has an awesome salad bar and has at least one vegetarian entree option every day
So maybe it will never be un-cool for your daughter!

My oldest is almost 6 and in Kindergarten and there has never been a problem with other kids telling her the veggies are bad. Â In fact, they'll all share which is their favorite and it's all okay.
Â
From what I remember of my own childhood, veggies were never the thing that made the cut. Â I remember a friend LOVING pizza without cheese and the rest of us ended up loving it too. Â Another friend loved just mustard sandwiches and we all ate them occasionally. Â Veggies were loved by all.

My 9 yo still loves all kinds of veggies, salads, etc. My 3 yo loves onions and mushrooms, too, but his absolute favorite foods seem to be green: spinach, collards, and okra. I swear, he'll push aside cake for another pile of collards!
Â
About cool--well, I don't think my 9 yo exactly perceives it as cool or otherwise to eat veggies. She knows some peers pack veggies in their lunch, and other peers are pickier about veggies. But she really doesn't care what her peers think of her food. She eats what she likes
I don't think food hits their radar as cool or uncool. It's just food, you know?
