So it begins (and I don't mean labor)

Today when dh called me from work to check on me (he does this most days) one of his co-workers had given him the advice that I needed to go into my dr's office hysterical next week and then I COULD GET an induction. I mean, really? I'm not 39w till Thursday and yes, I'm impatient, but for goodness sakes I won't consider an induction for quite some time. People just don't get it.

And I'm not calling ANYBODY anymore. I called my sister this morning (BECAUSE SHE TOLD ME TO!!!!) and she answered the phone out of breath like she'd been running a marathon, and practically shouted "Are you okay????"

Yes. You told me to call. And frankly while I may call her before departing for the hospital (although now I'm rethinking that one), she lives 10 hours away. What on earth was she gonna do for me?

If my mother misses my phone call she calls back hysterical! I once called her, then when she didn't pick up I left a message saying i was fine, just wanted to chat. I then got in the shower. She called my home phone three times, then my cell four times, until I had to finally get out of the shower and answer!!!! I am not answering the phone anymore either. The worst is people who call and chit chat for a few minutes before the big, sooooooooo how are you feeling? breaks in! Arg I promise I will tell people I had a baby, not going to keep it a secret!

I've started getting the questions about induction. I really don't get it because we're just so happy that I made it to full-term... and now people want to kick them out already! I just tell them my dr won't even consider it this early. Which is true.

People are so funny! I'm 39 w 3 days and everyone is asking me when baby will come. I HAVE NO CLUE. I'm huge, but I feel great! People don't understand that. I went to the grocery store and the clerk says "poor you, how much more can you take"? What? I feel fine!!!!! I told her I was much bigger with my son to which she replied "wow, I can't imagine that"....oh thanks....

ohh yes I'm definitely getting the induction questions (esp being 2 days over) now... no fun.

I also have people telling me to "let them know" when I go into labor!! Um, yeah right, the last thing on my mind when I'm in labor is going to be calling people to tell them!

I'm 37w3d and my family and DHs are constantly calling to find out where the baby is!! Both of our boys were born in week 38, so I understand that I'm getting close to that, but seriously?!?!

i can certainly relate! whenever i phone someone they expect news of the baby's arrival.

i'm 39w3d...and counting! my 2 sons were both born 2-3 days before 40 weeks, and my daughter was 1-2 days after 40 weeks.

i haven't received any induction questions/comments thus far - but that could be because i frequently advertise the fact that i am a home-birther and could possibly be infamous for dragging out my soapbox on the topic of unnecessary interventions during the course of most conversations about pregnancy/labour/birth

My mom is getting anxious about my phone calls, too. I called her the other day and she was busy with an event she was in charge of, so I just told her I needed her to come by on her way home (she lives half a mile away). She clearly thought there might be something up other than needing a car seat from her car.

I pretty much try to avoid discussing prodromal labor with anyone because, well, you never know what it means or when baby will come and they will ALL decide it means NOW and freak out. Or bug you forever. Or start worrying incessantly. So I have to laugh when people are asking, "So, are you having ctxs?!" because, yes, I am... But it is clearly NOT baby time or I wouldn't be standing here!

For me it's the mother in law. My first was born TWO WEEKS LATE. So what does she do? She buys a non refundable plane ticket to be here for four days, and the middle of those days is my due date. I don't know what she was thinking. And now every few days she asks me if this baby will be on its due date. What do I say? I doubt it? You dumb a^%, what were you thinking? I just say I hope it will be on time. I am so stressed out about it I have even considered ASKING my doctor to induce my on my due date. That is CRAZY. I had a terrible experience when they actually did induce me with my first because I was so late. The midwife at my doctors practice told me I should be careful what I ask for. They would even give me an on demand C section if I wanted one. YIPES! Anyway, I make my dh read her emails and I just am dropping out of facebook land for awhile so that she can't get to me anymore!

I love the, "No baby yet?" question while they are staring at my huge belly. I want to say that I had him last week, this is just water weight.

Why is it so amazing to make it to the due date?

Ug.

Wow.  Like the baby has a calendar or something in there?  You don't exactly have a record of being 'right on time', she should have considered that!  My (step)mom is coming down for this LO but she's nervous that being here a week and a half before my due date might not be early enough.  She'll be down there for a full month (Thanksgiving to Christmas) to make sure she gets time with her grandson, lol.  I don't know what DH is going to say about it though... he's unreachable in California right now.  Oh well.  At least I know she'll cook and clean while she's here.
