Another (EXTREME!) dry skin thread

I have slight eczema on my upper arms, but this issue with my face is unbearable. It's dry. There's painful patches of flaking dry skin. My face feels like it's on fire. It is noticeably hot to the touch. It HURTS. If I don't put moisturizer on for even one day I end up with new (permanent) wrinkles.

I've been alternating olive oil and coconut oil. My skin still feels rough to the touch with an oily layer on top. I'm at my wits end here. Our insurance starts next month and I'll be going to the Dr ASAP. In the meantime I need some relief. It's been getting worse every fall/winter. I hoped moving down south would help alleviate the skin problem, or at least make it less severe. Unfortunately, the skin on my face is still severely dry.

I've tried not wearing any makeup at all. I've tried using natural moisturizers/cleansers. I've tried going a couple/few days between baths/showers. I've tried bathing/showering in lukewarm water. Nothing seems to work.

HELP!

I have a similar condition on my forehead and down into one of my eyebrows. I thought it was extremely dry skin or eczema, and treated it w/every type of 'moisturizer' I could. It wasn't sore like you describe, but it was red and really dry/scale-y/flakey. YUK! I don't wear makeup that often, but it was not possible to wear it there when I did. It turns out, though, that it is seborrheic dermatitis (confirmed by an eye surgeon when being treated for a completely different issue). Anyway, it gets worse in winter/colder weather. The best natural treatment I have found for it isn't any moisturizer at all, but apple cider vinegar. I use a cotton ball and apply a diluted acv solution on it every night and after a few days it's gone. I have found that I have to keep doing it every so often or it will gradually try to return.

It might not be the same condition as yours, but I just wanted to put that out there as maybe being a possibility.

Have you done an elimanation diet? I would suspect allergies, and also, taking copeous amounts of fish oils and borage or primrose, something that contains GLA.

Well, I'm trying tea tree oil, which is supposed to be one of the treatments for seborrheic dermatitis. We'll see if that works. Thanks!

I'll try an elimination diet and supplements. Thanks!
