mangosteen

I am trying to figure out if mangosteen is worth all the hype I'm hearing about it. Anyone have any experience with it? Thanks!

I was born in the country where mangosteens are grown, although I was raised here. My parents go ga-ga for them when they can get them here but I prefer "western" type fruits. I find it has a strong flavour and they're a bit too fibery for me.

I like them but they're not one of my favourites. I suspect that part of the appeal is that they tolerate transport a lot better than many tropical fruits.

I like them a lot but would not pay the high prices I have seen here in the US...so I gorge on them if we are visiting DH's home country during the right season. Same goes for passion fruit, rambutan, and lots of other tropical fruits that are hard to find here.

More specifically, I'm wondering about the juice.  I visited a friend last week who started taking the juice a few months ago, and says she and her daughter have experienced major benefits.  I'm curious about it, and wonder if it's worth paying the price.
