need help with a rash.

I know this is sort of an odd question, but I'm not sure where to post it. I have used the crystal stone or the crystal spray deodorant thingy for several years, with good results. However, I tried a variation on it (got a scented one instead of the fragrance-free variety), and had a horrible reaction to it. Within about 30 minutes of applying the spray, my underarm was totally broken out in a painful, itchy rash. It took a week of twice daily washing and applying a zinc oxide diaper cream (that was the only thing that soothed the rash, so that's what I used) to clear it up. I waited about 3 days after the rash was clear to try using the plain spray; within about 30 minutes, my underarm was again broken out. I got it to clear up, and haven't had the courage to try anything again. FTR, I had not shaved my underarms recently when I developed the first rash.

So, I guess what I'm wondering, is 1) why would I suddenly have a reaction to the plain spray, 2) do you have any suggestions for an effective deodorant, because I'm not sure I really want to try to use that again, and 3) is this an allergic reaction?

Ok, must go! Baby is crying.

Anyone?

Strange! I developed sensitivities to hair products after I got my hair chemically straightened years ago (I don't know if it's the cause or not, but the timing is curious). There are very few things I can use on my hair that don't make my scalp itch like crazy. Stuff from the hfs is generally ok- it could be fragrance or some other chemical. So I think it's possible that the scented stuff triggered a sensitivity. That's purely speculation, but there ya go.

In the meantime, you could try baking soda as deodorant. It works really well- just dab a bit on. It can be harsh, so you could dab on some aloe first or something. I never had trouble with using bs as deodorant except the time I used it right after shaving- yeowch!!.

Yeah, I was thinking perhaps it was the scented stuff that triggered a sensitivity to the plain stuff.  I am really bummed, though, because I can't stand dealing with BS on a regular basis.  I don't mind it at home, but not when we travel.  Thanks!
