toLabor Doula training

I have just attended a toLabor doula training workshop- for anyone who is considering Doula training, I just wanted to put out there that not only did I feel the program was educationally fantastic, it was also one of the most empowering experiences I've ever had. I feel it has left an indelible mark on my approach to my pursuit of midwifery, and also my parenting, relationships, and the way that I view womanhood and my own experience in my body and with birth. I'm so thankful to have been a part of it, and would recommend it to anyone interested in this field. And thank you to all of you who are doing this work!!

The toLabor workshop is great, I learned so much from it.  Glad you also had a good experience!  smile.gif

Im doing the CBE through IBWP but enrolled when they were ALACE. I emailed to see if I could help host a workshop or if there was one near me. I really want to go to one!!

I have both attended and hosted a workshop (in 2005 and 2006, when they were still ALACE) and they were awesome.

I did a workshop with Terese when she was still part of ALACE.  It was beyond fabulous.  I've taken a DONA workshop too, and I thought Terese's was more advanced and really just an amazing weekend.  Definitely recommend it.

This makes me so happy to hear, I am going to be attending one of their workshops soon and it makes me so excited to hear such rave reviews! :)

What makes it different from the DONA training?

I had already been through a CBE workshop and been teaching for a while when I took the DONA workshop.  Honestly, I didn't learn much.  Just not a lot of new info.  The one Terese did had a lot more of that.  Also, the DONA one was more...dry, I guess.  It was fine, but basic.  The ALACE one felt like a weekend of sisterhood.  It was an experience, not just a class.

I totally agree, it was incredible. I blogged about the whole thing here.

I'm so excited for those of you who are looking forward to the training! I'm also curious to hear more about the differences between tolabor/alace and DONA, in hindsight I think it's especially powerful that you have these select few women who do all of the trainings. It definitely seems like less of an 'academic' class and more of a life-altering experience. Definitely cemented my midwifery aspirations... it's been almost a month now and I can still conjure up that altered state- nevermind the value in attending births.
